MIZZOU is Apple Friendly
These are University of Missouri students, evidenced by the large number of them sporting T-shirts with MIZZOU printed across their chest. MIZZOU is the nickname for the university. Incoming freshmen studying Journalism at the university are not required to purchase Macintosh computers, but the university requires they purchase either an iPhone or iPod Touch. According to Brian Brooks, associate dean of the Journalism School, they want to use the device as a learning tool.
“Lectures are the worst possible learning format,” Brooks said. “There’s been some research done that shows if a student can hear that lecture a second time, they retain three times as much of that lecture.”
The students obviously take this directive as a directive to buy a Mac as well. At least that’s what they told their parents, I’m sure. That is all except one misguided youth with an Acer. The students are not actually required to purchase the Apple device, but the dean says they put the word “required” in the curriculum so that they can get reimbursed through a student’s financial aid.
Many Colleges Are Apple Centric
Also, check out this post I wrote almost two years ago about iPhone on Campus. There’s an awesome video showing the direction colleges are going with Apple technology.
