Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference starts on Monday June 8th and ends on the following Friday, June 12th. We can expect a keynote speech from CEO Tim Cook, likely to occur at 10AM PST or 1PM EST. Tim will set the stage for Apple’s future. Why is this significant?
It’s significant because Apple is maturing into something much bigger than what it has represented in the past. You can look at this next stage as the third stage in Apple’s development as a global conglomerate, leading and shaping the way we communicate and manage our lives. The first stage was the era of Macintosh, the computer for the rest of us, bring a simple, approachable graphical interface that was a metaphor for the real world.
The second phase was Apple’s foray into personal electronics and communications, with the iPod, iPad and iPhone. Apple took computing mobile, untethering us from our desk top metaphor, and starting a whole new wave in the way we consume content and communicate. The third phase, expands the mobile paradigm into the places that we spend the majority of our lives…our health, in our car, in our home, and at work.
This WWDC will be all about the expansion into our daily lives. I doubt the media will recognize the significance of this direction, they’ll be more interested in how this affects the next quarter’s bottom line. But you will know, because you are an AppleInvestor.
